Like most other towns in the area "Glasshouse" is a railway town, the next stop north of Beerburrum.
With a population of about 1800 it is well serviced with shops and services.
It is the location of the Tourist Information Centre for the Glasshouse Mountains Area.
It started as a pineapple, tobacco and sugar cane growing area with many other fruit and vegetables growing well in the rich volcanic soils.
Like most of the towns in the area, it is mostly a service centre for the surrounding residential suburbs but does retain a lot of the rural areas and of course the National Park and Forestry.
