Landsborough has been my home town for over 15 years.
You will find it on the Sunshine Coast in South East Queensland about a 1 hour drive (unfortunately a lot more in peak hour traffic) north of Brisbane and about 20 minutes drive to Caloundra on the coast.
Feel The Serenity
To me, it has the perfect balance of rural lifestyle mixed with a short drive to the beach.
Brisbane is close enough for work or to take the kids to visit to some of the wonderful places like Southbank and the Museum but far enough away to be a whole different world than the peace and quiet here.
Landsborough is a railway town, with the main station and bus interchange for the southern end of the Sunshine Coast.
Historic Town
It is hard to believe if you know the Sunshine Coast and Maroochydore in particular, but Landsborough was once the main town in the whole Sunshine Coast area.
Back in those days (1870's) it was known as Mount Mellum and was a staging post for the famous Cobb and Co. on the route to the Gympie gold fields.
Later the rail came to town and the town was renamed after the famous explorer "William Landsborough"
Gateway To The Blackall Range
We are the last town you pass through on your way to Maleny, Montville and Mapleton on the Blackall Range and places further west.
The Real Home Of Australia Zoo
Even though Australia Zoo is marketed as Beerwah, us locals know we are actually closer.
Check it out on google maps or drive it in your car if you don't believe me. Landsborough to the zoo is 3.4km and Beerwah to the zoo is 4.4km.
For those who haven't been to the zoo it isn't in town, it is between here and Beerwah on Steve Irwin Way.
Some maps may show this as The Glass House Mountains Tourist Drive or Glasshouse Mountains Road.
In Town we have a good variety of shops, pretty much what you would expect for a small semi rural town.

Ride The Karts At The Big Kart Track We are the home to the BIg Kart Track which is a minute or two out off town on Steve Irwin Way. If you head out of town towards the Sunshine Coast or the Bruce Highway you will firstly drive across the Ewen Maddock headwaters and on your right you will find the track. I've been there lots of time over the years and it always get the blood pumping. |

Check Out The Aboriginal Axe Grooves If you head south from town along Old Gympie Road (left at the roundabout) for about 2km you will come across Little Rocky Creek. Here you will find a small carpark and a short walking track down to the creek itself. Before walking down the track have a read of the information sign, it will tell you about the axe grinding grooves and also of some Cobb and Co wheel tracks you can find if you look carefully. We have taken our kids there for a aboriginal history lesson for home schooling but I must admit they were much more interested in building a dam from rocks (hydrology lesson perhaps???) |
